December 24, Macon to Monticello

Tonight's blog post comes to you from a very comfortable lounge in front of a gorgeous real Christmas tree! (Normally blog posts are written while I sit up in a very uncomfortable sofa bed) But not tonight. Carols are playing out in the hall, and the house is quietening down after Miss Pat's Christmas Eve gathering, but more on that later.

The drive from Macon to Monticello took us through some gorgeous, prime cotton growing country. I've never thought about what cotton looks like when it's growing, but it's a little ugly.

We arrived in Monticello in good time and were allowed to check in early. After dropping off our luggage we headed in to Talahassee to see if we could find a camera shop for Dad. His filter has got stuck on the lens of his camera, and it has a crack in it. Unfortunately we had no luck today, but we've asked some questions and hopefully we'll have more luck on Boxing Day.

The touring around in Talahassee did mean that I could visit a Super Walmart and man are those places huge! Thing Big W, combined with Woolworths, with a pharmacy and a Harvey Norman for added benefit.

Back at our accommodation we joined in the family & friends Christmas eve celebration and had a fantastic time. Our accents are apparently 'just gorgeous' and we were able to learn a lot of the similarities and differences between Australia and the US. We also sampled oyster soup and chilli for dinner. Very yummy!

I hope that everyone home in Australia is having a lovely Christmas Day, and keeping safe and cool. We are looking forward to Church tomorrow morning, followed by a trip into Talahassee for Christmas lunch.
